Our Values

We believe that we can best deliver an excellent service by being available to our customers and by prioritizing a face to face and human service, where appointments are not required and no one has to use a website, contact centre or chatbot to do business with us.

We believe that a professional and efficient service is best delivered in partnership with those receiving it and that developing friendly and informal relationships underpins the local, human service we aim to give.

We always want to understand the person first before we make a decision or offer a service. This comes from being close to our customers, taking the trouble to understand what is important to them and delivering a service tailored to their needs.

We know that creating a friendly and welcoming place means very little unless we deliver on customer priorities. We are committed to making a difference in everything we do and taking responsibility for the decisions we make and the actions we take.

Our Plan

We want to deliver excellent service to those we serve.

Meet The Board

Prior to retirement John spent 42 years as a senior professional in Housing Associations. A qualified accountant he played a leading role in the first ever stock transfer from Central Lancashire New Town as well as the initial stock transfer from Tameside Council.

Establishing initial Finance, Administration and IT systems in 4 organisations gave a sound understanding of the challenges facing the housing movement.

Gained experience of IT by chairing the SDM User Group for 5 years, of discrimination as secretary of Building Positive Action for 2 years.

Natalie Hurst

Natalie is a housing solicitor with 27 year’s experience. Although Natalie has experience of a number of different areas of law, she has always been involved with housing law to some extent and in recent years that has become her area of specialism.

Natalie is now predominantly involved in housing litigation and has over the years acted on behalf of Registered Social Landlords and Local Authorities. Natalie joined a small firm of solicitors in Manchester in 1997. They were a specialist housing firm which dealt with both property and litigation work and she stayed with them for 18 years.

Natalie then moved to another small firm in Chorley which specialised in housing litigation. In 2018 we were bought by a large national firm, Capsticks, who specialise in public sector work and are now growing their housing division.

Prior to specialising in the litigation side of housing law, Natalie spent a number of years undertaking conveyancing and commercial property work from buying numerous single properties for Housing Associations through to purchasing complicated commercial sites. Natalie now specialises in litigation and regularly attend court. Natalie is also involved in marketing and business development.

Natalie wanted to use the skills she has gained throughout her career and her knowledge of housing issues and law for the benefit of the local community which is why she applied to become a member of the board. Natalie would like to see the Association continue to develop strategically as an organisation which takes the right decisions to meet the ever-changing needs of the Prestwich community.

Anne Southern

Anne is a Chartered Management Accountant with close to 30 years’ experience in the social housing sector. Whilst working for a Gloucester based housing provider, she continues to live in the North West where her career has mostly been based.

Anne has held executive director roles for 19 years as well as a variety of non-executive roles during that time. Those roles have been at organisations of varying sizes, and she understands in particular, the challenges smaller organisations can face.

In her current role at Gloucester City Homes, she is Executive Director for Business Resources and is responsible for finance, governance, IT, and human resources

Prior to specialising in the litigation side of housing law, I spent a number of years undertaking conveyancing and commercial property work from buying numerous single properties for Housing Associations through to purchasing complicated commercial sites. I now specialise in litigation and regularly attend court. I am also involved in marketing and business development.

I wanted to use the skills I have gained throughout my career and my knowledge of housing issues and law for the benefit of the local community which is why I applied to become a member of the board. I would like to see the Association continue to develop strategically as an organisation which takes the right decisions to meet the ever-changing needs of the Prestwich community.

David Monks

David was a solicitor until retirement and a partner in the firm of Howarth Goodman which specialised in housing association work. He dealt with many housing matters including rent arrears, possession actions, nuisances cases (ASBOs), ‘right to buy’ procedures, tenancy agreements, leases and shared ownership.

From the firm’s Prestwich office, he also handled residential and commercial conveyancing, wills and probate, matrimonial cases, personal injury claims, criminal law and licensing.

Bury born and a local resident, David has good knowledge of the Prestwich area and the Rectory Green site and its history. He was active in his children’s PTA and a parent governor at Prestwich High School for some years.

David was chair of the board of the association prior to the present chair.

Patrick Heneghan

Paddy has lived in Prestwich since 1975. A retired primary headteacher, Paddy was a Bury Councillor from 2012 to 2016 and remains politically active locally. He is a board member of Bury and Bolton Citizens’ Advice and is Chair of a primary school in Whitefield.

Paddy believes that providing decent affordable housing is one of the most significant challenges for our country. He believes that Prestwich and North Western Housing Association is playing an important part locally in providing good standard rental accommodation and if the opportunities arise would like to see an expansion of that provision.

Meet The Staff

Mike Corfield – CEO

Mike has worked in housing for over thirty years starting as an 18-year-old counter clerk for Salford Council. He worked for many local authorities and housing associations since this time.

Mike started as the CEO at Prestwich and North Western in April 2023 and really enjoys working with customers to improve the way we deliver services. It is vital that we do business in a friendly and accessible way and whilst we are happy to launch our new website, we will always be available face-to-face to try and resolve problems for our customers without you having to join a telephone queue for a call centre or talk to a chat-bot!

Mike is really excited that a new Tenants Association has started running Friday morning breakfast clubs. We will support them in their aspiration to run many other social functions in our newly refurbished Community Hub.

We have also started work on our first new housing development in over 30 years at our Whittaker Street site in Radcliffe and these new 2 bedroomed houses will be ready to let at social rents in November 2025.

Finally, we can achieve nothing without an excellent team and Mike says “I am lucky to have such a skilled and caring bunch who make up the Prestwich and North Western Team”.

“I have lived at Rectory green for 11 years and have always been happy living here.  Unfortunately, I have sometimes experienced antisocial behaviour.  The local team are trying to modernise the service, and I have just signed up to use a new digital ASB APP to make it easier to report any issues I may have”.
